Thoughts on ep10 preview, Blackwater and The Prince of Winterfell
Let me get this out of the way first: I usually don’t like people complaining about Ros for not being canon because I actually like Ros but I’m gonna be an hypocrite and complain about Ros because this is the season finale and they have SO MUCH SHIT and SO MANY CHARACTERS to cram into it already. I just hope that scene will serve the plot well.
What made Blackwater so fucking good, in my very humble opinion (beside the fact that it was written by George R. R. Martin, directed by Neil Marshall and most likely had the biggest budget of all the episodes) was how you could really get immersed within the events taking place thanks the fact that we weren’t swapping locations and plotlines every 90 seconds.
I’m not so crazy to think that this is an issue that will ever be completely fixed since this is the sort of book adaptation they’ve tackled. Actually, this issue didn’t bother me so much until episode 8. While it had more than a few highlights that I loved, there was something strangely anti-climatic about it. Maybe because the climax was meant to be the following episode, Blackwater. I’ll see once I watch this season’s episodes back to back. But to me, episode 8 was an example of what happens when you sacrifice pacing for the sake of cramming plot establishment and character development into a single episode. Episode 8 felt like an episode they put aside with a lot of empty space to fill later with the scenes they didn’t know where else to put. I’d have to watch it a third time to go more in depth with this but…. anyways. Wow this post became bigger than intended.
I feel bad about picking on this because I really, but REALLY enjoy this show. Like, I’m glad that it exists. I’m so glad this show is being done. And I really want next Sunday’s episode to make me feel dumb for worrying so much by being an extremely awesome episode.
If this season finale is just as good as Blackwater was, I’ll be in heaven. Amen.
